Keyboard Layout

Selecting a Keyboard Layout

Your phone features several keyboard layouts and the ability to automatically switch to landscape orientation simply by turning your phone sideways.

Keyboard layouts

There are three types of keyboard layouts you can choose from:

·         QWERTY. QWERTY is a keyboard layout similar to a desktop computer keyboard. This is the default keyboard layout.
·         Compact QWERTY. Compact QWERTY is a type of keyboard which features 20 keys.
·         Phone Keypad. This is a 12-key onscreen keypad that has a layout similar to mobile phone keypads, plus some additional keys.

To select a keyboard layout, do the following:
1.     Open the program you want to use and go to the screen where you want to enter text.
2.     In the lower-left corner of the keyboard, tap the button that shows an image of a gear on it.
3.     Tap Keyboard types and then select the keyboard layout that you want to use.
4.     If the onscreen keyboard does not appear on the screen, tap the field or area where you want to enter text.
5.     The onscreen keyboard then comes back on the screen, with the keyboard layout you selected.

Landscape orientation

For some people, it is more comfortable to type using both thumbs.

When entering text, you can turn your phone sideways to use the landscape orientation of the onscreen keyboard and type more comfortably by using both thumbs.

In order for the onscreen keyboard to automatically change to landscape orientation when the phone is held sideways, press HOME > MENU, tap Settings > Sound & display, and make sure the Orientation check box is selected.

The landscape orientation of the onscreen keyboard is supported in some applications of your phone, but not all.
